The Petal Pusher: End of Summer Dahlias
Dahlia’s blooming season starts from mid to late July up till the first frost of the season. So it was not surprising that there were an abundance of selections to choose from at the flower district. I ended up with a collection of deep reds, wine, orange red, tangerine yellow and white dahlias. I was so happy to have found these deep deep red, burgundy dahlias. It has a silk velvet appearance to them, as if they jumped out of a Caravaggio’s dramatic paintings.
As I type this, there is a slight but noticeable shift in the air. Autumn is slowly moving its way in and summer is gradually retiring for the season. Bringing some late season dahlias into the house is my way of hanging on to the last bit of summer and easing my way into fall.
Hope you all are enjoying the last leg of your summer! I know I am excited for the fall and what it will bring. ’Til next time!
