With the exception of my mom, I grew up in a house surrounded by lot of guys, some big brothers, my dad and many times some male cousins from my huge extended family. Life was fun with all those crazy guys but on a occasion, I needed girly downtime. Meaning, I played with a lot of Barbie Dolls.

As a surfing, ballet-dancing, rockstar, veterinarian president, Barbie had it all; a full wardrobe, horses, a Corvette,  a Lamborghini, an RV and of course, several dream houses. I loved her dream homes; but that’s not really a surprise is it? However with all my love/lust for Barbie’s real estate I never owned one of her many homes. Yes, I made it through childhood just fine and now I am a fully functioning adult. Or at least I thought so until I saw Jonathan Adler’s REAL Barbie Malibu Dream House. Then, I had house envy all over again.

This time around, my envy was a little different as I found myself wishing that I had been commissioned to design Barbie’s home. Adler’s design is a lot of fun and I could see Barbie living here.  But wouldn’t it have been great if Mattel had sponsored one of those Design Houses like Kip’s Bay in New York? That way we could have seen several different designers’ take on the Dream House. I am positive everyone has a marvelous yet different vision of what the Barbie Manse would look like. I’m giddy just thinking about how fabulous it would be. I’m thinking of my design right now…
